Team CC
Team Copper Country completed a sweep of pool play at the Tier II national tournament in Green Bay with a dramatic 4-3 shootout win over the Wonderland Wizards from Bridgeport, Connecticut, last night. Team CC controlled the game early. Sam Erkkila scored a short-handed goal just a minute into the contest. Joe Phillips scored late in the first period, and Ted Randell tallied a short-hander early in the second to give the Yoopers a 3-0 lead. The Wizards began their comeback with a goal a minute later. They scored twice in the 15th minute of the third period to force overtime. The scoreless extra period led to a seven-round shootout. Alex Nordstrom and Teddy Randell scored early in the rotation, and Nordstrom’s second goal was the game-winner in sudden death.

Team Copper Country will now take on the Minnesota Moose in the quarterfinals today. The Moose are ranked second in the nation. Our pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com, in advance of a 1:00 faceoff. If Team CC advances, their semifinal contest would face off at 9:00 tonight, with our pregame coverage starting at 8:45.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers defeated the Chicago White Sox 6-1 yesterday. With temperatures in the mid-30s, Michael Fulmer pitched shutout ball into the sixth inning. Miguel Cabrera drove in three runs, and Dixon Machado slugged a two-run double. The Tigers will face the White Sox in Chicago again this afternoon. Mike Fiers will make his Tigers debut against Reynaldo Lopez. Pregame coverage begins at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

With Fiers coming off the disabled list, the Tigers have moved Daniel Norris to the bullpen, and sent Warwick Saupold down to Toledo.

The Chicago Cubs scored four runs in the ninth inning, and defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 yesterday. The outburst against Jacob Barnes spoiled a good starting effort by Zach Davies, who turned in six innings, and gave up just one run. Barnes was hurt by a couple of infield errors, and a timely pinch-hit sacrifice bunt by Chicago pitcher Jon Lester. Eric Thames homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers will host the Cubs again this afternoon. Chase Anderson will pitch against José Quintana.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings wrapped up their season with a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders last night. Henrik Zetterberg, Justin Abdelkader and Dylan Larkin scored for Detroit. Jared Coreau stopped 36 shots in net. The Wings finish their campaign with a record of 30-39-13, in last place in the NHL’s Atlantic Division.

Detroit’s rebuilding effort will continue under the same leadership. General Manager Ken Holland has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons begin the final week of their season with a visit the Memphis Grizzlies this afternoon.
