Officials and students at Michigan Tech and Finlandia University will spend this week celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Parade of Nations and Multicultural Festival. Darnishia Slade from the International Programs and Services office at MTU says activities will begin tonight with a presentation by international athletes from Michigan Tech and Finlandia… SLADE. That program will start at 7:00 at the Finnish-American Heritage Center. Tomorrow, a special display about the Parade’s history will open at the Carnegie Museum. On Wednesday, event co-founder Betty Chavis will join a group of foreign students to talk about the history of the Parade at the Portage Lake District Library. Dr. Arun Gandhi will speak at the Rozsa Center Friday night – he’s the grandson of legendary Indian statesman Mahatma Gandhi. The Parade and Multicultural Festival will take place as usual on Saturday, and the dance troupe Step Afrika! will perform Saturday night at the Rozsa. Details about all the events are posted on our KeweenawReport.com web calendar.
