Obituary: Julia Hongisto

Chassell

            Julia Hongisto of Chassell and a resident of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility since 2008 passed away March 15, 2018.

            Julia was born on November 7, 1920 in Chassell to the late Michael and Hilda Tuomi. She was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton.

            She was united in marriage to John Hongisto on October 21, 1939. The lived most of their life in Chassell.

            Preceding her in death were her husband John, daughter Charlene Hongisto, parents Michael and Hilda Tuomi, sister Erma (Ed) Haarala, and brothers Carl, Ray, Kenneth and Leo Tuomi.

            She is survived by her 3 daughters;

                                                Barb(Jay) Garnell

                                                Irene(John) Mackrain

                                                Ruth(David) Ahonen all of Chassell

                                                7 grandchildren;

                                                            John(Dottie) Saatio

                                                            Susie(Rodney) Thompson

                                                            Pam(Tom) Howe

                                                            Rich(Bridgette) Ahonen

                                                            Julie(James) Thomsen

                                                            Emily Garnell

                                                            Heather(Tommy) Lee

                                                9 great grandchildren, a brother Walter Tuomi of Ontonagon, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends of faith.

            The family would like to thank the staff of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care of our mother and late father John. Thank you!

            Funeral services for Julia will be held at 11am Monday, March 19, 2018 at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church, Sharon Avenue, Houghton with David Taivalkoski to officiate. Visitation will be held from 9am until the time of services at the church on Monday. Luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall immediately following the services.

            Burial will take place later this spring in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
