A national website is recognizing Houghton as the small town in Michigan with more attractions than any other place in the state.
Onlyinyourstate.com recently published an article on Houghton and the surrounding recreational opportunities, as well as the fun to be found in town.
The article says although most people know the city because of Michigan Tech, it’s the natural beauty of the location in the Keweenaw Peninsula that sets it apart.
Highlights include the Portage Canal, the Nara Nature Trails and Houghton’s waterfront parks.
Of course, Houghton is known for it’s winter fun, though the article does mention Mont Ripley, which is across the canal.
Other features of Houghton include the headquarters of the Isle Royale National Park, where people can begin their trip to the island, and more solid-footing attractions like the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum and the area’s brief but enjoyable summertime activities.
