Obituary: Robert A. Carlson

Graveside services for Robert A. Carlson,72, of Superior Location, who passed away on February 3, 2018, will be held 2 pm Friday May 4, 2018, at the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton with Rev. DJ Rasner to officiate. Military Honors will be conducted by the Copper Country Veteran’s Association.

Superior Location

Robert A. Carlson, 72, of Superior Location, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2018, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.

Bob was born on May 4, 1945, to Harry and Tunie {Kangas} Carlson and attended Houghton High School.

Bob served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 1962 to Nov. 1964. He worked for Futuremill in Farmington, MI, until he returned to the Copper Country in 1970.

On April 3, 1971 Bob married the former Betty Kempainen of Dollar Bay and they worked and raised their children in the Houghton area. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time at camp with his friends and family.

Mr. Carlson was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock.  Bob worked for White Pine Copper until it closed in 1995 and then spent the remainder of his working career at Baraga Maximum Prison as a correction officer until retirement.

Surviving are Bob’s wife, Betty; daughter, Tamara (Joe) Eklund; son, Rob; sister, Carolyn (Roy) Mattson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; half brothers, Clifford, Gordon, and Herbert Carlson and half sister, Joan Bonney.

Funeral services for Bob will be held 2 pm Saturday February 10, 2018, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. DJ Rasner to officiate.   Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.

Friends may call on Saturday February 10, 2018, from12 noon until time of services at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock.
