Obituary: Stanley S. “Stan” Duda

Stanley S. “Stan” Duda, age 88, of L’Anse, MI passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at The Lighthouse at Hancock in Hancock, MI. He was born in L’Anse, MI on November 19, 1929 the son of the late John P. and Kathrean (Egnarskie) Duda. Stan graduated from L’Anse High School in 1950. He attended Arizona State and College of the Desert in Palm Springs, CA and received his Master’s in teaching. Stan served in the National Guard. He taught school in California and was a shop and drivers education teacher and had owned his own health food store in California. Stan retired from teaching and moved back to L’Anse.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse and was a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. Stan enjoyed traveling, gardening, fishing and spending time in Mexico.

Stan is survived by his children Stanley Duda and Cynthia Duda of California, sisters Catherine Messenger of Michigan and Florida and Florence Smith of L’Anse, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Also surviving is “a devoted soulmate”, Sharon Drew kept company with Stan for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Louie Dudo and Edward Jack “Jackie” Dudo, sisters Frances Mangrum, Pauline Hutchin and Isabella Slagel.

A memorial service for Stan will be held at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse in the spring and interment will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery, L’Anse, MI.

The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse, MI has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
