Aspiring Women Event Examines Broken Hearts

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Have you ever felt truly heartbroken? A broken heart can be very real. That’s why it’s so important to surround yourself with positivity in a time of sadness.

Aspirus Keweenaw invites all ladies to learn about this actual medical condition, and have some fun, at the Aspiring Women event Broken Heart Syndrome on Saturday, February 10, in Houghton.

Dr. Peter Vaitkevicius, cardiologist with Aspirus Heart & Vascular at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium, will explain what broken heart syndrome is, why it mainly affects women, and why we are seeing so much more of it. Ladies will enjoy a heart-healthy brunch, Bloody Mary bar, and mood-boosting activities like pottery painting. Advance registration is required to attend this free event. Reserve your spot by calling Aspiring Women Coordinator Jenn Jenich-Laplander at 906-337-6541.

“We really wanted to make this a fun, interactive and educational event that brings women of all ages together for a fun Saturday morning,” said Jenich-Laplander. “This is a great way for women to break away from their routines and focus their attention on themselves.”

Ladies are invited to make memories with family and friends by joining in a free pottery painting activity. Magic Kiln Studio owner Catherine Hiltunen will lead the group in creating a personalized coffee mug keepsake. Mugs created at the event will be taken to Magic Kiln Studio in Hancock to be fired. Ladies will be notified when their mugs are ready for pickup.

Aspirus Fitness Center Supervisor Stacy Bussiere and Fitness Coordinator Hope Zander will share easy techniques for starting the day relaxed and stress-free. Participation in their No-Stress Morning Stretch Routine is optional.

Ladies will also enjoy:

  • Free health screenings
  • Aspiring Women gift
  • Raffle drawings (wear red to be entered in a special drawing)

Broken Heart Syndrome takes place from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, February 10, in the Memorial Union ballroom at Michigan Tech. Check-in and free health screenings begin at 9. No-Stress Morning Stretch Routine begins at 9:45, followed by a heart-healthy brunch and Bloody Mary bar at 10:30. Dr. Vaitkevicius presents at 11. Pottery painting is at noon.
