NHL
The Detroit Red Wings’ four-game winning streak ended with a 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning last night. The Lightning scored the first two goals of the game. Goals by Gustav Nyquist and Justin Abdelkader closed the gap, but Tampa netted the final two scores of the contest to seal the win. Petr Mrazek stopped 19 shots, and took the loss. The Wings are off until Saturday, when they play at Pittsburgh. Pregame will begin at 12:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Detroit Pistons play at New Orleans tonight. Tipoff is at 8:00 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
In playoff action yesterday, the Jaguars and Saints joined the Titans and Falcons in the next round. Jacksonville edged Buffalo 10-3, and New Orleans held off Carolina 31-26. We’ll cover all of the NFL playoff games through the Super Bowl on 99.3 The Lift.

Green Bay Packers’ director of player personnel Brian Gutekunst will take over as the team’s general manager. Numerous media reports say it’s a five-year deal. The team has not yet confirmed it. The promotion came only after the Seattle Seahawks denied the Packers’ request to talk with their general manager, John Schneider. Schneider is a former Packers staffer, and grew up in De Pere. Gutekunst was in Houston, preparing to interview for the Texans’ GM job, when the deal came together.

Our Finlandia University basketball coverage continues Wednesday, when both teams host St. Scholastica. Our pregame show will start at 5:10 on 99.3 The Lift, with the men’s tip-off at 5:30, and the women’s tip-off at 7:30.
