Calumet Girls Edge L’Anse – Friday Sports Wrap

High School
In girls high school basketball last night…
– L’Anse scored five points in the final 20 seconds, but Calumet held on for a narrow 55-54 victory.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City v Baraga – not reported.
– Ewen-Trout Creek defeated Wakefield-Marenisco 59-44. Paige Berglund and Elise Besonen each scored 14 points for the Panthers.

In boys hoops, Ontonagon fell to Bessemer 55-49.

– Both Ewen-Trout Creek basketball teams will face Drummond at the Gogebic Community College gym tonight. The girls game will begin at 6:00, and the boys contest at 7:30.

Calumet will host Marquette in high school hockey tomorrow night, in a game that was snowed out on December 5th, and again on December 12th. Our pregame coverage will begin around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

The Houghton swim team competes at Gladstone today.

MTU
The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team has climbed to 13th in the nation in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Coaches’ Poll. The Huskies have won six straight games.

GLHL
The Calumet Wolverines and the Portage Lake Pioneers meet for two games this weekend. Tonight’s contest starts at 7:30 at the Colosseum. Tomorrow’s game begins at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings visit the Boston Bruins tomorrow afternoon. Coverage begins at 12:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons host the New York Knicks tonight. Tip-off is at 7:00 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
There was no Thursday NFL game this week. The Green Bay Packers host the Minnesota Vikings tomorrow evening at 8:30. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift. The Detroit Lions visit the Cincinnati Bengals for a 1:00 game Sunday on 99.3 The Lift. The Lions need to win both their remaining games, and get losses from key competitors, to reach the playoffs.

MLB
The Milwaukee Brewers have confirmed the signings of free agent pitchers Jhoulys Chacín and Yovani Gallardo. Both have cleared their physicals. Chacín’s contract is for two seasons, with 15-million guaranteed. Gallardo signed a one-year deal that could be worth as much as four million, but is not guaranteed.
