Tech Women’s Hoops Edges NMU, Men Fall – Monday Sports Wrap

High School
In high school hockey tonight, Hancock skates at Jeffers. Pregame coverage will begin around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

In girls basketball this evening, Hancock visits Bessemer in a makeup game from December 5th.

The Houghton swim team competed against Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie at Marquette on Saturday. The girls team finished second. Tessa Meyer won the 100-yard butterfly. The boys team placed third. Colton Haataja won the 100-yard freestyle. Autumn Sanders and Andrew Garland of the Gremlins each won the one-meter diving competition. For full results, click here.

Finlandia
The result of yesterday’s Finlandia women’s basketball game against Great Lakes Christian was not reported.

MTU/NMU
The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team surged ahead during a strong third quarter, then held off Northern Michigan for a 59-56 victory yesterday. Kelli Guy led the Huskies with 15 points. The Tech men’s team couldn’t overcome a slow start, and lost to the Wildcats 77-65. Kyle Monroe had 24 points and 11 rebounds.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons won their third straight game yesterday, defeating the Orlando Magic 114-110. Detroit led by 24 points with seven minutes to go, then withstood a furious Orlando comeback. The Pistons connected on a franchise-record 17 three-pointers. Reggie Bullock led Detroit with 20 points. The Pistons face the Mavericks in Dallas Wednesday evening.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings visit the New York Islanders tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
The Green Bay Packers’ playoff hopes suffered a serious blow yesterday, with a 31-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Aaron Rodgers threw three interceptions in his return from a broken collarbone, but nearly led the Pack back in the closing minutes.

The Minnesota Vikings clinched the NFC North Division title by defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 34-7.

In last night’s game, the Dallas Cowboys edged the Oakland Raiders 20-17.
