Michigan Tech is looking to lead a team of researchers to conduct an independent risk analysis of Enbridge’s Line 5.
Director of the Great Lakes Research Center Guy Meadows detailed a proposal Monday to the Michigan Pipeline Safety Advisory Board.
If approved, Michigan Tech would lead a team made up of 41 researchers from nine universities and other organizations.
The purpose of the study would be to analyze the environmental and economic impacts of a “worst-case scenario” spill or release.
The proposal is expected to be submitted to the State of Michigan later this month with the analysis beginning as early as mid-January, if approved.
Meadows said the final risk analysis report could be delivered in August 2018.
