Michigan Gets Average Grade for Highway Laws

Michigan falls in the middle of the pack in a new report on highway safety laws from the group Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety. In their 11th annual report, Michigan received a classification of “yellow” with the report saying Michigan needs to fill gaps in its laws. One reason for Michigan’s yellow rating is the state’s repeal of the mandatory motocycle helmet law for adult riders. States are graded “green” for best, “yellow” for ‘cautionary’ and “red” for worst. The group says if Michigan didn’t repeal the law in 2012, there would be 26 fewer motorcycle crash deaths.
