Askel
Arne E. Heikkinen, 83, a resident of Askel passed away Wednesday morning December 6, 2017, at UP Health – Portage Hospital in Hancock following a lengthy illness.
He was born on December 10, 1933, in Askel, a son of the late John and Mamie (Onkalo) Heikkinen. Mr. Heikkinen attended the Doelle School. He then worked in the woods with his father before beginning a career working the ore boats on the great lakes.
Arne returned to live in Askel where he enjoyed picking berries and wood carving projects making handles for hammers and axes, Cross-country skies and sleds that could be used for ice fishing. He enjoyed cross country skiing until his 70th birthday.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother Iver, his sisters; Sigrid Heikkinen and Judy Wenberg and his brother-in-law; Raymond Maki.

His niece and nephew:
Karen (Jim) McInnis of Chelsea, MI and their children, Krista and Katie
Kim (Anita) Maki of Chassell and their children, Nathaniel, Rylee, Kyle, Briah
Numerous cousins.
As requested no service will take place and burial will take place in the Askel Cemetery at a later date.
