Arthur N. “Art” Allert, Jr. age 88, of L’Anse, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Bayside Village, L’Anse. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin on February 15, 1929. Art was the son of the late Arthur N. and Evelyn (Thorsen) Allert, Sr. He graduated from Austin High School in Chicago in 1948. Art married the former Vivian G. Almli in Chicago in April 29, 1950. She preceded him in death on July 13, 2017. Art was a member of United Lutheran Church, L’Anse. He had owned and operated Arts Store in L’Anse for 20 years. Art had been a past manager of the L’Anse Golf Club, and past member of the L’Anse Village Council, United Lutheran Church Council, Board of Director of the former Commercial National Bank, Board of Director of Bayside Village Nursing Home, Lions Club, Ottawa Sportsmen’s Club, L’Anse Masonic Lodge and was a 33rd Degree Mason, Ahmed Shriners Club of Marquette and Keweenaw Bay Shriners Club. Art enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching their sporting events, singing, bowling, playing golf and going to hunting camp.
Mr. Allert is survived by his children Kurt (LeRita) Allert of L’Anse, Gayle (Bill) Voskuhl, Kathy (John) Falk and Joanne (Roy) Kemppainen all of L’Anse, grandchildren Will (Marie) Voskuhl, Tricia Voskuhl, Derek (Megan) Falk, Kara (Brad) LeClaire, Darrin (Heidi) Voskuhl, Scott (Hannah) Kemppainen and Brittney Kemppainen, great grandchildren Sydney and Ryan Voskuhl, Kailyn and Kwynn Voskuhl, Ella and Brady Falk and Vale LeClaire. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vivian, sisters G. Linn and her husband Warren Forsman and Arlene and her husband Al Hails.
Funeral services for Mr. Allert will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2017 at United Lutheran Church, L’Anse with Pastor John Ansell officiating. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 11 a.m until the time of the funeral service. Wednesday evening a Masonic Memorial service will be conducted at the funeral chapel at 7:30 p.m. Friends are invited to join the family for fellowship and a luncheon immediately following the funeral service at the church on Thursday. Spring interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests memorials in Mr. Allert’s honor be directed to United Lutheran Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at church.
