Site Survey Identifies Issues At Aspirus Keweenaw

Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital is working with The Joint Commission to address issues raised during a recent survey.

The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies nearly 21,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States.

Aspirus Keweenaw has maintained accreditation for several years but is currently listed in Preliminary Denial of Accreditation following an October site visit by the Joint Commission.

The report highlighted the use of electronic health records but identified some other areas in need of improvement.

Aspirus Keweenaw said in a statement that all areas were immediately addressed and that they had not experienced any negative outcomes with patient safety or health care arising from those issues.

A follow-up survey in November provided Aspirus an opportunity to show confirmation and validation of equipment sterilization processes in the hospital and the clinics.

An upcoming follow-up survey later this month will validate specific process and logistic issues focused on the facility, documentation of safety drills and maintenance items.

The outcome of the follow-up surveys are not reflected in the current status from the Joint Commission, though Aspirus Keweenaw remains accredited during this process.

The statement says the hospital is confident their accreditation will be confirmed early next year.
