In high school hockey last evening…
– Jeffers dropped a back-and-forth game to Kingsford 7-5. Dominick Nettell had a goal and three assists for the Jets. Mike Johnson scored twice, and Clay Larson and Evan Larson added single tallies.
– L’Anse defeated Negaunee 3-1.

In hockey tonight…
– Hancock entertains Hartland. Pregame coverage will begin around 3:40 ahead of a 4:00 faceoff on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– Houghton welcomes coach Chris Givens and Traverse City Central.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s hockey team skates at Marian University tonight, and Lawrence University tomorrow afternoon.

The Lions women’s hockey team hosts Marian University for a pair of games this weekend. Faceoffs are at 7:15 tonight, and 4:00 tomorrow at the Houghton County Arena. Our broadcast coverage of tomorrow’s game will begin at 3:40 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.

The Finlandia women’s basketball team welcomes Wisconsin-Oshkosh tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 at the Paavo Nurmi Center.

MTU
The Michigan Tech volleyball team lost to top-seeded Lewis 3-1 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament last night. The Huskies dropped the first two sets 14-25 and 16-25, came back to claim the third set 25-21, then fell 20-25 in the fourth set. Olivia Ghormley had 13 kills for Tech, and Elle Heinonen recorded 20 digs.

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams picked up victories over Saginaw Valley State last night. The women’s team smothered the Cardinals 59-37. SVSU scored just four points in the first quarter, and seven in the third quarter. Brenna Heise led the Huskies with 20 points and eight rebounds.

The men’s team built a 17-point lead, then held off a late surge by the Cardinals to claim a 75-67 win. Kyle Monroe paced the Huskies with 29 points. Tanner Uren had eight rebounds.

Both Tech hoops squads will welcome Northwood tomorrow. The women’s game tips off at 1:00, and the men’s contest at 3:00 at the SDC.

The MTU hockey team has the weekend off.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team lost 64-56 to Northwood last night. The Wildcats men’s team defeated the Timberwolves 82-71. Both NMU squads will host Saginaw Valley State tomorrow afternoon.

The NMU hockey team welcomes Alabama-Huntsville tonight and tomorrow night.

GLHL
The Calumet Wolverines open their Great Lakes Hockey League schedule on the road this weekend. They’ll visit the De Pere Deacons tonight, and the Fox Cities Ice Dogs tomorrow night.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings suffered their sixth straight loss, falling 6-3 to the Montreal Canadiens last night. Goals from Anthony Mantha and Tomáš Tatar gave Detroit a 2-1 lead after the first period. The Habs scored three times in the second stanza to take command. Franz Nielsen added a late tally for Detroit. Jimmy Howard took the loss in net.  The Wings skate at Montreal tomorrow night. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons visit the Washington Wizards tonight. Tip-off is at 7:00 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
In last night’s NFL game, Dallas defeated Washington 38-14.

On Sunday, the Detroit Lions visit the Baltimore Ravens for a 1:00 game. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift. The Green Bay Packers welcome the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 1:00 game.

MLB
A couple of former Detroit Tigers have found new homes. Outfielder-turned-pitching-hopeful Anthony Gose has inked a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers. Outfield prospect Steven Moya has signed a contract with the Chunichi Dragons in Japan.
