A Houghton County man will spend about eight months in jail for his role in a high-speed chase. 26-year-old Travis Kuopus of Laurium has been sentenced to 12 months in jail, with credit for 129 days served. He’ll also have to spend three years on probation. Kuopus pleaded guilty last month to third-degree fleeing and eluding police and attempted stalking. His charges stem from a domestic incident at the Houghton Walmart store in April. Kuopus hit a vehicle and fled the scene, leading police on a chase through Houghton, Hancock and Dollar Bay on M-26. Police arrested him at his home two days later.
