Dave’s BP Files $64,000 Claim Against Hancock

A blocked storm sewer is being blamed for water damage at Dave’s BP in Hancock.

Owner Dave Dow spoke to the Hancock City Council at Wednesday’s regular meeting to describe the scope of the damage.

During the Front Street reconstruction this summer, a 24 inch storm sewer located just south of Dave’s BP was reportedly not reconnected properly.

Dow said when he arrived to work on August 22nd, he found over five feet of water in his basement.

The furnace, hot water heater, air compressor and all of his past financial records were underwater and the total containment system for the dispensing of fuel was compromised.

Dow said during the aftermath, his lot and business were gutted for 23 days while repairs were made.

His insurance company will only cover the damages inside the building.

He presented a claim for damages to the city of Hancock for over $64,000.

The city replaced and rerouted about 290 feet of new storm sewer pipe at a cost to the city of $100,000.
