Lapin Agile Opens At McArdle Theater

Live entertainment is now underway at McArdle Theater.

Michigan Tech’s Theater Company launched its first play of the season last night.

 

The show is entitled “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” and is the first full length play written by comedian Steve Martin.

Martin wrote the play in the early 90s.

Actress Sarah Jo Marten describes her part in the play, “The play is set in a bar in 1904. Some interesting characters from the 20th century such as Picasso and Einstein show up. Different characters come in and come out. Myself, I am a waitress at the bar and I serve drinks. I chime in every so often with some sarcastic phrases and give my little two cents every so soften.”

The comedy is centered around a fictitious meeting between scientist Albert Einstein and artist Pablo Picasso, shortly before each achieved world renowned recognition.

Actress Susan offers some insight, “It puts Picasso and Einstein in a bar together. They have a debate over which is more important in history kind of. They come to a unique conclusion.”

Show times are at 7:30 and continue tonight, Tomorrow and three additional showings next week.
