You probably know that you need to obtain a burn permit from the State of Michigan before lighting up most outdoor fires. What many don’t know is what you are – and are not – allowed to burn in your permitted outdoor fire. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has released a new video to help you sort things out. In a nutshell, paper, leaves, tree limbs and other yard waste are okay… but anything more serious is probably not. To see the video, click here. Michigan burn permits are free, and may be obtained online here. Burn permits are not available within incorporated cities and villages, and other local restrictions may also apply.
