Nurses Strike in Marquette

Nurses are walking the picket lines at the Upper Peninsula’s largest hospital. Negotiators for the Michigan Nurses Association and UP Health System-Marquette failed to reach an agreement yesterday in their six-month-old dispute over staffing levels. The 48-hour walkout is scheduled to last until 7:00 Saturday morning. Hospital officials say they’ve arranged for temporary nurses to fill in, and that patient care will not be affected. The nurses union says no additional negotiations have been scheduled.

Union workers at the new Marquette hospital have also walked off the job, in support of the nurses’ strike.
