New Keweenaw Trail Opens Today

Keweenaw County’s newest mountain bike trail will open this afternoon. Officials from the Copper Harbor Trails Club and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources will cut the ribbon on the path from Mud Lake past Horseshoe Harbor to High Rock Bay scenic point at 2:00. The six-mile stretch completes the second stage of a two-stage project. Stage One between Fort Wilkins State Park and Mud Lake opened two years ago. The 85-thousand dollar cost was covered by private donations, fundraisers and a grant from the Steven C. Leuthold Family Foundation. The Copper Harbor Trails Club will manage the trail.
