It’s especially important to have your children at school today. Today is “count day”… the day on which all publicly funded schools in Michigan send their attendance numbers to the state. The state uses those numbers to determine how much funding districts and charter schools will receive next year. Each student missing from class will cost most Copper Country districts the foundation per-pupil allowance of $7,631. Some small districts, such as Arvon Township and Elm River Township, are not funded through the per-pupil allotment. There is a second “count day” in February, but today’s count is weighted at 90 percent when the results are merged.
