Good paying jobs are available at one of the nation’s leading electronic manufacturers right here in Houghton County.
Calumet Electronics has been operating at the same location for a half century and are experiencing massive growth as a producer of printed circuit boards (PCB’s).
Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Todd Brassard says Calumet Electronics is one of the top 5 percent revenue producing PCB companies in the country.
Brassard said, “Calumet Electronics has been around for about 50 years, but in the last five years or so, we’ve really dug in deep into those kinds of business that have to stay in the United States, for instance— defense work, medical work, aerospace work. Business at Calumet Electronics has been really good, we have a lot of customers lined up to buy the circuit boards that we make here. The focus of this organization was originally to create jobs. That continues to be our mission today. Where a lot of PCB shops are shutting down because they can’t compete with offshoring, we’re going strong, we’re creating more jobs.”
The company has launched an aggressive two-phase expansion–opening an Advanced Technology Center in the Lakeshore Center in Houghton where they can tap into the resources available from Michigan Tech, and they are hiring dozens of new employees for their manufacturing plant in Calumet.
Process Technician Elliot Naggler starting working for the company soon after he graduated from Michigan Tech in 2016.
Naggler said, “So I graduated with a degree in chemical engineering, this is an area that can hire chemical engineers and recent graduates. Yes, we’re hiring operators right now, but in the near future we’ll be looking to expand our engineering capabilities and our engineering team.”
Calumet Electronics employs over 200 people, including some 30 new hires in the past month.
Applications are still being accepted at their location in Calumet or through the company’s website.
