Eagle River, MI., Sept. 28, 2017 – Anthony Lane Partners, LLC, a privately held strategic holding company based in Dallas, Texas, USA is pleased to announce that its offer to purchase the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge has been unanimously accepted by the Keweenaw County Board of Commissioners. The KML is a 178-acre resort property that includes a rustic lodge, conference center, cabins, and a nine-hole golf course. The historic lodge was built in the 1930s as part of President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal and was designated a Michigan State Historical Site in 1970. “We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to become involved with a property with such a rich heritage,” said ALP Managing Director, Noah Comisar. “ALP’s culture emphasizes responsible land use and sustainable development. The KML fits perfectly into our portfolio of businesses.”
While the KML has been operating as a resort for many years, ALP envisions expanding the use of the property to include several significant initiatives that will directly benefit the people and economy of the Keweenaw. “We believe that we can establish microgrid technologies at KML while ensuring minimal impact on the natural features of this beautiful property,” Comisar said, “that will involve a combination of renewable resources.” ALP anticipates that the KML can be completely energy independent. Microgrid technologies will reduce the operating costs of the KML substantially and allow ALP to demonstrate how hybrid use of microgrid technology can be a model for future innovation and community development. Comisar said that he has already been exploring ways in which ALP can partner with nearby Michigan Technological University. “We see great value in combining ALP’s subject matter expertise with MTU’s recent advancements to further innovate in the area of energy independence and security, which we believe will have long lasting positive effects on the people of the Keweenaw.”
The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, as an ALP property, also would become home to The Rhea Institute, an enterprise whose mission will be to identify issues of public concern and impact and facilitate solutions. “The conference center at the KML will host thought leaders and influencers from the western UP and around the world who will generate social and technological progress and consensus building,” said Comisar. “At KML conferences and retreats, we hope to inspire and enable change makers, then send them out into the world to create positive change – in the Keweenaw and beyond.”
ALP’s current portfolio consists of ten operating companies. Sectors of expertise include alternative and renewable energy, agriculture, education, real estate, and national security. “I was born in Michigan and spent my early childhood here. I learned to play hockey on a frozen pond in Kalamazoo,” Comisar said. “We have deep ties here. ALP plans to have a presence in Michigan and the UP for many years to come.”
