The Michigan Tech soccer team took a 1-0 victory at Purdue Northwest yesterday morning. Sarah Boyd scored the only goal of the game. Kirsen Hudak earned her second shutout of the season in goal.

MLB
The Minnesota Twins completed a four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers with a 10-4 victory yesterday. Buck Farmer gave up five runs over five innings, and took the loss. The Twins put the game away with five more runs in the sixth off Chad Bell and Victor Alcantara. Ian Kinsler homered for Detroit.

The Tigers have today off, and will open a series in Kansas City tomorrow night. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

An MRI has revealed that Detroit first baseman Miguel Cabrera’s back pain is being caused by two herniated discs. Treatment plans are being discussed.

The Milwaukee Brewers were held to just three hits yesterday, in a 5-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

The Brewers are also off today, and begin a home set against the Cincinnati Reds tomorrow night.

With six games remaining, the Brewers now trail the Cubs by five-and-a-half games in the National League Central Division. They are two games behind the Rockies in the chase for the second wild card playoff berth.

Twilight League
Superior National Bank-Stanton broke open a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning, and hung on to defeat the Marquette County Mavericks 3-2 in the UP Hardball Championship game Saturday. Officials of the Copper Country Twilight League and the Superiorland League are hoping to make the game an annual event.

NFL
A late Detroit drive fell just barely short yesterday, as the Lions lost to the Atlanta Falcons 30-26. With 12 seconds remaining, Matthew Stafford hit Golden Tate with an apparent one-yard touchdown pass. A replay, though revealed that Tate had been touched down inches from the goal line, with eight seconds remaining. By rule, the replay forced a 10-second runoff of the clock, thereby denying the Lions a chance at a final play.

Matt Crosby’s 27-yard field goal in overtime lifted the Green Bay Packers to a 27-24 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals yesterday. Aaron Rodgers forced the extra period when he found Jordy Nelson for a three-yard touchdown pass with 21 seconds left in the fourth quarter. He set up the game-winning kick by connecting with Geronimo Allison on a 72-yard pass and run.
