MLB
Mike Mahtook’s two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in the winning run, as the Detroit Tigers edged the Chicago White Sox 3-2 last night. Detroit had taken a two-run lead on Tyler Collins’ home run in the seventh inning, but Chicago tied the game in the eighth. Anibal Sanchez turned in six effective innings, giving up a run on six hits over six innings, and striking out 11.

The Tigers entertain the White Sox again tonight. Myles Jaye will start against Reynaldo López. Pregame coverage will begin at 5:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers broke open a tie game with eight runs in the eighth inning, and defeated the Miami Marlins 10-2 last night. Neil Walker’s grand slam was the big blow. Eric Thames, Domingo Santana and Stephen Vogt also homered. Without a healthy starter available, eight Milwaukee relievers combined to strike out 13 batters, and home the Marlins to six hits.

Those teams play again tonight in Milwaukee. Zach Davies will start against Adam Conley.

The Cubs defeated the Cardinals yesterday, so Milwaukee continues to trail Chicago by three games in the National League Central Division. Saint Louis is four games back.
