The budget for the upcoming fiscal year was passed by the Houghton County Board of Commissioners at their regular meeting Tuesday.
County Administrator Eric Forsberg said there weren’t many changes to this year’s 2017-18 budget from last year.
The budget shows $9,595,000 in revenues with $9,562,000 in expenditures, leaving a budget surplus of about $33,000.
Forsberg said, as in past years, two-thirds of the budget is for wages and benefits.
After all the bills are paid, Forsberg said less than 2 percent is left for discretionary spending.
Board chair Al Koskela presented a recommendation from the Personnel Committee to increase the salary of Administrator Forsberg by $5,000, which had been previously agreed upon when his position was changed from Controller to Administrator.
That motion passed 4-1, with Commissioner Scott Ala voting against it.
