The Houghton City Council created a list of 10 Good Things That Happened in Houghton in the Last Two Weeks.
- One small mural has been painted on the 500 block of Shelden Avenue and a larger mural is in process near the bridge.
- During Monday’s afternoon eclipse, City Manager Eric Waara noted that Shelden Avenue was uncharacteristically quiet for about 13 minutes.
- The paving contractor for the project on Lakeshore Drive has been working hard and has scheduled the second phase of pavement for next week.
- The Michigan Department of Transportation is going to do some work on the bump out at Bridge Street to get rid of the drop-off.
- The next batch of recycling containers for the city has shipped.
- Hydrant flushing that has some residents alarmed at the discoloration of their water is close to completion.
- The parent of a returning Michigan Tech student noted that the Houghton Police Department has been doing a great job “taking care of this community.”
- Speaking of the police department, a few officers aided in the rescue of an injured chicken on the lift bridge. The chicken is in recovery.
- The city has received calls complementing Houghton on how it looks and feels, despite being in the middle of a grueling construction project.
- There is no rain on the weather forecast, so today’s Summer Concert will more than likely take place at the beach for the first time all summer.
