The Friends of the Portage Lake District Library put together a scavenger hunt in downtown Houghton this weekend as a fundraiser for the library.
Teams of one to four people were given a list of items and tasks to complete. The teams were given 90 minutes to take pictures of themselves completing the tasks or in front the business sponsors. Each task was given a point value and at the end, prizes were awarded for different categories.
“This is the first time we’ve done it. We’re very excited, we have over $825 in sponsorship from the local businesses and we have 16 teams. So, we think we’ve raised over $1,000 for library community programs, so, we’re very excited about that for our first try,” said Maria Bergstrom, President of the Friends of the Portage Lake District Library
Some of the community programs the money will support include the Summer Reading Program, Storytime for Kids and various educational programs for the community.
Business sponsors included Chassell VFW, the Print Shop, Douglass House and Armando’s and fifteen others.
