Open House at the Great Lakes Research Center

Rain or shine, the public is invited to come to the Great Lakes Research Center at Michigan Tech from 1- 5 pm, Friday, August 4th, to view and participate in a number of demonstrations and activities for all ages presented by faculty, staff and students.

Join the GM Ride the Waves students and staff to learn about the aquatic food web in the Lab. Drive an underwater remotely operated vehicle and see a demonstration of NERD, the Nautical Emergency Rescue Device developed by the SENSE Enterprise. Step back in time using geographical information science tools developed through the Keweenaw Time Traveler project.

Learn about the latest in safety equipment used on and near the water, and from 2-5 pm, tour a U.S. Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboat. Visit the first-floor lobby to see the Celebrating Women of the Great Lakes Research Center exhibit featuring photography by Sarah Bird (UMC) and view the GLRC’s new display.

Activity location and description flyers will be available in the first floor lobby.
