Gene Matt Sutinen, 81, of Calumet passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Lighthouse of Hancock.
Gene was born to Matt and Ailene (Seppanen) Sutinen on November 14, 1935 in Osceola, Michigan.
Gene grew up in Osceola, and graduated from Calumet High School in 1954.
On July 27, 1957, he married Loretta Jacobson.
He enlisted in the Army, serving for four years, then returning to the Copper Country and raising a family.
He worked throughout his life as a carpenter for local companies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Sutinen; grandson, Uriah Sutinen; and his sister, Louise Robinson.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Loretta
Sons: Bruce (Melissa) Sutinen of Laurium
Craig Sutinen of Calumet
Daughter: Loralee (Mike) Sutinen of Calumet
Grandchildren: Isaiah, Nathan, Andrew, and Shandara (Kevin) Sutinen
6 great grandchildren
And numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gene will be remembered for his love, his family, and with all of those he knew. He will live on in our hearts, and memories, and will be sadly missed.
Family and friends will gather at the house of Bruce and Melissa Sutinen, 54 4th Street, Laurium, Michigan for a memorial service on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Ken Toth to officiate.
Burial will take place at a later date at the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.
