Sloppy Tigers Fall to M’s
The Tigers committed three errors, gave up four unearned runs, and lost to the Mariners 8-1 yesterday. Robbie Ray took the loss… giving up four runs on seven hits over five innings. The Detroit offense collected only five hits, and didn’t score until Victor Martinez doubled in Miguel Cabrera in the eighth inning.
The Tigers have today off, and open a set at Tampa tomorrow night. Max Scherzer will start against Chris Archer. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on FM 99.3 and AM 1400, WCCY.
Kansas City won, so Detroit trails the Royals by a game-and-a-half in the American League Central Division.
Rajai Davis left yesterday’s game after the sixth inning, after he stole his third base of the game. Davis bruised his left thumb sliding into second base. He’s considered day-to-day.
Brewers Win Fourth Straight
Jonathan Lucroy drove in five runs, as the Brewers completed a sweep of the Dodgers with a 7-2 victory. Lucroy did all his damage early… with a two-run homer in the first inning, and a three-run double in the second. Wily Peralta threw six shutout innings to earn his 15th win of the season.
The Brewers also have today off, and host the Blue Jays tomorrow night. Mike Fiers will start against J.A. Happ.
The Cardinals also won, so Milwaukee’s lead in the National League Central Division remains at three games.
Gauthier Repeats at Great Deer Chase
Tyler Gauthier from Ishpeming won his second-straight 28-mile Great Deer Chase mountain bike race on Saturday. Gauthier finished the course on the Swedetown Trails with a time of 1:50:55. That was two minutes faster than Pete Karinen from Painesdale, who was also last year’s runner-up. Third-place finisher Colby Lash of Marquette was more than eight minutes back. Nicole Alexander of Marquette was the top women’s finisher. In the 15-mile event, Todd Tollefson from L’Anse took first place, with a time of 1:02:24. Jason Jilbert of Marquette finished second… a little more than four minutes off the pace, and just ahead of third-place finisher Dennis Jensen from Rockford. Hannah Derby from Ishpeming was the top women’s finisher. For full results, click here.
