Maureen M. Wahmhoff, 80, of Chassell and formerly of Baraga, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at her home in Chassell. She was born on January 29, 1937 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late Hiram and Edith (Sallogga) Cushman. Maureen graduated from Mount St. Joseph College with a Degree in Nursing. On November 29, 1958 she was united in marriage to Robert L. Wahmhoff. While raising 3 children, Maureen and Robert also cared for many foster children thru the years. In 1978, Maureen and her husband Robert purchased a Christmas tree farm in Baraga and established Lake Superior Tree Farm. In 1980, they came to live in Baraga and built a life there. She had served as Secretary of Copper Country Farm Bureau for many years. Maureen had been a Licensed Practical Nurse at Bloomingdale Nursing Home in Bloomingdale then at the former Winkler’s Nursing Home in L’Anse. She also worked for Senior American Coalition, and was a guardian for many seniors. Maureen was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga and was very supportive of her husband Robert in his deaconate ministry at St. Ann’s.
Maureen is survived by her loving children Robert H. (Maggie) Wahmhoff and John Wahmhoff of Chassell and Stephanie Wahmhoff of Battle Creek, grandson Christopher Wahmhoff and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years and her parents.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday July 7, 2017 at St Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga with Father Corey Litzner, Celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Immediately following Mass, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the church hall.
