The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and open a home set against the Kansas City Royals tonight. Justin Verlander will start against Matt Strahm. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Former Tigers reliever Francisco Rodriguez has signed a minor league deal with the Washington Nationals. Rodriguez was released by Detroit after losing his job as the team’s closer.
The Brewers were also idle yesterday, and begin a series at Cincinnati this evening. Junior Guerra will pitch against Tim Adleman.
The Brewers have optioned catcher Jett Bandy and outfielder Lewis Brinson to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Bandy will be replaced by Stephen Vogt, who was claimed off waivers from the Oakland Athletics..

In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League action last night…
– Auto Pro Glass and Tire shut down Northern Michigan Land Brokers 16-5. Auto Pro opened an early lead with three runs in the first inning. They added two more in the third. Northern Michigan Land Brokers tied the game with five in the top of the fourth inning, but Auto Pro took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Morgan Peters was the winning pitcher with four strike outs and four walks. Molly Berg took the loss. At the plate for Auto Pro Glass and Tire, Kenzie Brunet had a triple and a home run, Morgan Peters had a single and a triple and Sarah Audette had three singles. For Northern Michigan Land Brokers Molly Berg had two singles and Kirstin Berg and Andrea L’Esperance each had a single.
– Auto Pro Glass and Tire then fell to Mattila Rock and Dock 8-4. Marti Jahfetson and Mel Baker pitched for Mattila and Sarah Audette pitched for Auto Pro. Mattila’s pitchers struck out four and walked three. Audette struck out nine and walked seven. Offensively for Mattila, Darla Mensch had three singles, and Mel Baker had two singles. For Auto Pro, Kenzie Brunet and Jamie Hendrickson each had a double and Kyleigh Audette had two singles.

MTU
Chris Brooks has been hired as an assistant coach for the Michigan Tech hockey team. Brooks has spent the past six seasons as head coach at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. He led the Pointers to three straight NCAA Division III Frozen Fours, and a national title in 2016. Brooks played college hockey at Western Michigan University. Learn more about Brooks here.
Liberty 5K
Online registration continues through tomorrow for Saturday’s Liberty 5k Run and Walk in Baraga. The event is part of this weekend’s Lumberjack Days celebration.
