Michigan gubernatorial candidate Bill Cobbs visited the Upper Peninsula back in February, but this weekend, he returned.
His campaign hosted a Meet and Greet with Michigan Tech’s Center for Diversity and Inclusion on Friday.
The former Xerox executive, Navy veteran and retired police officer spoke with a crowd of young voters and shared his personal experiences.
Cobbs said, “I decided to run for governor after looking at what was going on in our state. It wasn’t a pretty picture. We have a state where we have all the resources we need to take care of all of our problems but we’re not doing it.”
Cobbs says he is most passionate about education and says if elected, he would focus on creating a new grant program to support college students funded by a progressive state tax system.
He also discussed updating Michigan’s infrastructure, citing his issues with the Flint Water Crisis and the Enbridge 5 pipeline.
He asked students what issues they felt most passionate about and discussed his proposed solutions to their issues, including health care.
Cobbs will be visiting multiple events until June 26th where he will end his visit in Sault Ste. Marie.
