Scherzer, Tigers Dominate Pirates
Max Scherzer struck out 14 batters over eight shutout innings, as the Tigers defeated the Pirates 5-2 yesterday afternoon. Detroit carried only a slim 2-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth, but scored three insurance runs that came in handy when Phil Coke gave up a two-run homer in the ninth. J.D. Martinez and Nick Castellanos each drove in two runs for the Tigers.

The Tigers host the Mariners tonight. Rick Porcello will start against James Paxton. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on FM 99.3 and AM 1400, WCCY.

Kansas City won again yesterday… so the Tigers remain a half-game back in the American League Central Division.

Brewers Shut Down Cubs
Mike Fiers struck out 14 batters over six shutout innings, as the Brewers downed the Cubs 6-2. Khris Davis and Mark Reynolds homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers head to the coast to play the Dodgers tonight. Jimmy Nelson will start against Zack Greinke.

Saint Louis won, and Pittsburgh lost, so Milwaukee leads the National League Central Division by two games over the Cardinals, and two-and-a-half over the Pirates.

Manfred To Succeed Selig As Baseball Commissioner
Rob Manfred has been named to succeed Bud Selig as Baseball Commissioner after Selig retires at the end of this year. Manfred is a lawyer who served as outside counsel for the owners during the 1994-1995 strike. He joined the MLB front office staff in 1998, and was named Chief Operating Officer last year.

Stanton Heads to Twilight League Finals
Twilight League
The Stanton Wildcats advanced to the Twilight League Championship series with two victories over Mosquito Inn last night. The first was the completion of Tuesday’s game, which had been suspended because of darkness with the score tied at 17. Tyler LaDuron’s homer in the bottom of the eighth made it an 18-17 victory for Stanton. LaDuron remained hot in the regularly scheduled game, hitting a three run homer, and pitching seven innings in an 8-4 win for the Wildcats. The result of the other semifinal game between BlueSky Health and Wolverine-Orbit was not reported. BlueSky had opened that best-of-three series with a 9-5 win on Tuesday.

Lions Continue Pre-Season Tonight
