MLB
The Detroit Tigers managed only one hit against a collection of Houston relievers, and lost 1-0 to the Astros last night. Brad Peacock came out of the bullpen to make a spot start. He pitched into the fourth, and struck out eight. Mikie Mahtook’s single in the third was the only blemish on his record. Three relievers closed out the shutout. Michael Fulmer took the hard-luck loss, giving up a run in the first inning, before pitching through the seventh.
The Tigers continue that series at Houston tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Lance McCullers Jr. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:45 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Tigers pitcher Aníbal Sánchez has accepted an assignment to the minor leagues. Sánchez will join the starting rotation at Toledo, as he continues to try to regain the form that earned him the American League earned run title in 2013. Sánchez started this season in the bullpen, but has struggled, and has not pitched often. Team officials hope that he can regain his form as a starter with regular work. Warwick Saupold has been called up to replace him.
The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and host the Blue Jays tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Joe Biagini.
