Experience The Keweenaw Event Planned For Memorial Day Weekend

[Hancock, MI] The Portage Health Foundation is putting on an event Memorial Day weekend called Experience the Keweenaw. It is a multi-purpose event that will be 1) raise funds for an outdoor recreation and wellness fund, 2) raise awareness to the natural resources and silent sports in our community (Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon) and 3) raise awareness to how these silent sports and outdoor recreation are an economic driver for the community.

This weekend long event will include hiking, biking, and kayaking activities throughout the four county community. This year we are working to drive interest into the event and only a few events require a nominal fee and pre-registration. By going to the website, www.experiencethekeweenaw.com, you can see the detailed schedule, where to register and the mission of the event. If you search Experience the Keweenaw on Facebook you will find our event page which has interactive and real-time updates and reminders of all that will be happening that weekend.

Friday, May 26th, there will be the kickoff event at the Continental Fire Company. There will be a tap takeover by Blackrock’s Brewery and speaker Hansi Johnson from Duluth, MN will be sharing his experiences with us. On Saturday, May 27th there will be an Expo at the Dee Stadium in Houghton. Vendors, speakers, demos, live music and more will all be happening throughout the day. Local businesses will be set up promoting their work and future events so you can stay involved and know what’s happening throughout the rest of the summer season. Sunday, May 28th, the event will wrap up in Copper Harbor with outdoor recreation events as well as live music and the Taste of the Harbor event. You will be able to purchase tickets for the food event and get to choose from local restaurant vendors.

There is a lot going on throughout the weekend and we hope that you will help us promote and support this event and the cause! Please feel free to email or call with any questions in regards to the event. If you would like to participate in the expo, please reach out and we will get you set up!
