MLB
Michael Fulmer pitched seven strong innings, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Los Angeles Angels 7-1 last night. Fulmer was staked to an early lead, after Justin Upton hit a three-run hoer in the first inning, and Andrew Romine added a two-run shot in the second. Fulmer allowed just three hits and one run to earn his fourth win of the season.
The Tigers continue that series against the Angels in Los Angeles tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Matt Shoemaker. Pregame coverage will begin at 9:45 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Outfielder J.D. Martinez will join the Tigers for tonight’s game. He’s been rehabbing from a foot sprain. Martinez was originally scheduled to play one more rehab game with the Toledo Mud Hens, but his return was advanced when outfielder Jim Adduci suffered a right oblique strain. Adduci has been placed on the disabled list.
Mookie Betts’ three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning lifted the Boston Red Sox to a 4-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday. Betts’ shot off Neftalí Feliz wasted a good effort by starter Jimmy Nelson, who gave up one run on four hits before leaving in the seventh inning.
The Brewers open a weekend series against the New York Mets tonight. Matt Garza will pitch against Matt Harvey.
Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun underwent an MRI yesterday on the calf muscle that tightened up earlier this week. He continues to battle an elbow injury, and may be headed to the disabled list. The team is expected to make an announcement today.
