When voters in Houghton head to the polls on May 2nd, they will be asked once again to support much needed upgrades to facilities at Houghton-Portage Township Schools.
The $10.9 million bond proposal will assist in paying for improved elementary school parking and drop off, auditorium improvements, outdoor recreation and athletics upgrades, equipping for instructional technology and interior improvements at both school buildings.
Schools Superintendent Doreen Klingbeil says without the approval of the bond, these upgrades are not likely to happen.
The aging facilities and emergency repairs divert general fund dollars to repair costs, instead of going to the classroom to positively impact the education of the children.
The bond would be paid by levying a millage of .75 mills for a maximum of 25 years.
A presentation on the bond proposal will be held at the Houghton High School Library on Monday, April 10th, at 6:30pm.
