The Mackinac Bridge is getting some serious work done.
Starting April 6th one of the iconic ivory towers on the “Mighty Mac” will be stripped down to bare metal and repainted.
James Lake spokesperson for the Mackinac Bridge authority says the $6.3 million project has to be completed by December of next year.
The original paint is lead-based and will be disposed of correctly and replaced with a zinc-based paint which is expected to last at least 35 years with periodic touch-ups.
