Still Time To Guess When Sled Will Sink

When the weather warms up enough to melt the ice, there’s going to be a snowmobile sitting on the bottom of the Portage Canal.

And when it does, the person who guessed the closest date and time will win up to a $1,000 in the Sink The Sled contest, being put on as a fundraiser for the Houghton Rotary.

Houghton Rotary Sink the Sled Committee Co-Chair Carrie Richards said, “There’s a webcam on the sled that the city of Houghton has set up for us and it will time stamp the exact time when it goes through the ice. So if it goes through in the middle of the night, we’ll be able to know. If it goes through in the middle of the day, we’ll have the time, too.”

Guesses are $5 each or three for $10 and can be made online at www.sinkthesled.com or from any Houghton Rotarian.

Guesses can come from anyone in the world but they must be made by April 15th–or sooner.

Richards said, “We have no idea when it’s going through the ice, but with the warmer weather coming, we think it’ll be sooner than later.”

Money raised will go toward the Rotary’s scholarship fund for local high school students.
