All-School Musical Oliver! Cancelled

The Calumet Theatre’s All School Musical production of “Oliver”, scheduled to be performed in late April, has been canceled due to a low level of student participation.

“Theatre management, the cast and I are all deeply disappointed that this decision had to be made.” said Director David Crowley. “The small number of students who came out for the show was completely unanticipated. After our initial three auditions we didn’t have enough students to make a complete cast.  We changed the dates of the performances and held a fourth audition and were able to get just enough to make the show possible. However, since casting the show one-fourth of the cast has dropped out because of various personal reasons and scheduling conflicts. We now have too few students to fill all the roles that are needed. If there was any way possible to turn out a quality production we would definitely continue, but the number of students we have left makes that impossible.”

The Calumet Theatre is hopeful that this small turnout is just an isolated incident and hopes that it will be reversed as their intention is to continue the more than 20 year tradition into the future by producing an All School Musical later in 2017 or next year.
