Schauer Talks Roads, Taxes

Democratic candidate for governor Mark Schauer says he wants to fix the roads in Michigan, but does not want to commit to new taxes to do it. Republican Governor Rick Snyder has proposed reworking the gas tax to raise new revenue but Schauer wants no part of that. Instead he wants to squeeze waste out of the state transportation department, get more money from Washington and close corporate tax loopholes. On the campaign trail the former congressman wants to talk about tax breaks, but Republicans argue he will raises taxes if he gets elected. When asked if he would be willing to sign a no tax pledge, Schauer refused saying it doesn’t make sense. Schauer and the Governor are running neck and neck in the latest polls.
