Tigers Drop Fourth Straight
The White Sox scored seven runs in the seventh inning, and pounded the Tigers 11-4 last night. The game was tied at two at the end of the sixth. In the seventh, two singles off Anibal Sanchez and two Tigers’ errors gave Chicago a one-run lead. Joakim Soria relieved Sanchez. He gave up a three-run double, a two-run homer and a solo homer in his second appearance in a Detroit uniform.

The Tigers host the White Sox again tonight. Max Scherzer will start against Hector Noesi. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400, WCCY.

Detroit has lost four straight games. Kansas City also lost, so the Tigers’ lead in the American League Central Division remains at five games.

Tigers’ third-baseman Nick Castellanos was scratched from last night’s lineup after being hit on the hand by a ground ball during batting practice. Castellanos’ right index finger swelled up so badly that it had to be drained. Shortstop Eugenio Suarez had to leave the game in the fourth inning, with soreness in his lower back. Both are considered day-to-day.

Brewers Shut Down by Rays
The Brewers lost their third straight game… 5-1 to the Rays. The loss spoiled a strong outing by Matt Garza, who gave up just one run over seven innings. Tampa Bay scored four in the eighth off relievers Will Smith and Marco Estrada. Milwaukee batters managed only three hits in the game.

The Brewers wrap up that series at Tampa Bay this afternoon. Yovani Gallardo will start against David Price.

Pittsburgh won, and Saint Louis lost, so Milwaukee’s lead in the National League Central Division is now a game over the Pirates, and a game-and-a-half over the Cardinals.
