High School
In hockey last night, Shane Ring scored three goals and added three assists as Negaunee pulled away from L’Anse, 8-4. Each team scored three power play goals in the first period. The Miners pulled away with two more special teams goals in the second period. Both teams now look forward to the Lake Superior Conference Tournament this weekend at the SDC.

In girls basketball last night…
– Houghton continued its unbeaten season by defeating Calumet 58-36. The Gremlins clinch the WestPAC title. Sloane Zenner is now just one point away from scoring a thousand in her career.
– Hancock edged West Iron County. 42-41. Maija Sebbas had 26 points for the Bulldogs.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell defeated Republic-Michigamme 47-37. Erin Seppala scored 24 for the Lakes.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City downed Watersmeet 51-43.
– Jeffers squeaked past Chassell 53-51. Alexa Clouthier’s late basket sealed the win for the Jets. Julia Nordstrom scored 26 for the Jets.
– Baraga shut down Ewen-Trout Creek 36-17.
– L’Anse couldn’t hold an early lead, and lost to Ishpeming 67-57. See video highlights from the game here.

Congratulations to Houghton High School’s Morgan Colling, who has been named one of this year’s Michigan High School Athletic Association – Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athletes. Colling will receive a $1,000 scholarship, and plans to study microbiology at California Polytechnic State University.
This biographical information about Colling was received from the MHSAA – Played four years of varsity basketball and ran two years each of varsity cross country and track & field, plus played two seasons of subvarsity volleyball. Qualified for the MHSAA Finals twice in both cross country and track and earned all-league recognition in basketball while helping that team to three league and two District titles during her first three seasons. Served as cross country and basketball captain. Participating in second year of National Honor Society and third of student government and key club. Serving as service project coordinator chair for NHS and vice president for key club, and has volunteered with Salvation Army and Copper Country Humane Society all four years of high school. Participated two years in Junior State of America and studied during the summer of 2016 in Hiroshima, Japan, after winning a Japan-America Friendship Scholarship. Will study microbiology at California Polytechnic State University.
MTU
The Michigan Tech soccer team has introduced five new players for next season. Three are from Michigan, and two are from Wisconsin. You can meet the incoming freshmen here.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons fell behind early, and lost 102-89 to the Milwaukee Bucks last evening. Detroit scored just 34 points in the first half. Marcus Morris led the team with 26 points. Andre Drummond added 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. The Pistons host the Mavericks tomorrow night.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings entertain the St. Louis Blues tomorrow. Faceoff is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
