Michigan’s Education Policies Highly Ranked

Michigan ranked in the top 10 among states for its education policies in a report card released Tuesday by StudentsFirst. The group said the state’s education policies did well elevating the teaching profession, but not so well getting parents involved in the process. Michigan received a C- overall grade on its policies from the group, founded by former Washington, D.C., Chancellor Michelle Rhee that promotes school choice and charter schools. The group said the state has policies that require efficient spending by school districts, but it needs to link spending to student performance. It also urged expansion of the Education Achievement Authority to further improve efficiency in addressing struggling schools.
