MTU Men, Women Earn Hoops Wins – Friday Sports Wrap

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team overcame an early deficit, and defeated Hillsdale 68-61 last night. The Huskies trailed by a dozen in the second quarter, but closed the gap to six at halftime. They held the Chargers to just five points in the third quarter, and closed out their third-straight GLIAC victory. Morgan Anderson led the Huskies with 22 points.

The Tech men’s team earned a 71-65 victory over Hillsdale last night. Kyle Monroe scored 22 for the Huskies in a tight game, in which the lead changed hands eight times, and no team ever led by more than eight points.

Both Tech teams will host Findlay tomorrow. The women’s game tips off at 4:00, and the men’s contest at 6:00 at the SDC.

The MTU hockey team is off this weekend.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University women’s team defeated Findlay 61-50 last night. The men’s team lost to the Oilers 100-56. Both NMU teams entertain Hillsdale tomorrow afternoon.

Finlandia
Both Finlandia University basketball teams entertain the University of Northwestern tonight. The start times for the games have been moved up one hour. The women’s game Finlandia Lions New Logowill now begin at 5:30, and the men’s contest at 7:30 at the Paavo Nurmi Center. Both teams will entertain North Central University tomorrow. The women’s contest starts at 4:00, and the men’s at 6:00.

Fans who bring non-perishable food items to those games will get in free. The food that is collected will be distributed through a program run by the Finlandia Campus Ministry.

The Finlandia women’s hockey team visits St. Catherine University tomorrow night. The men’s team has the weekend off.

The Calumet Wolverines entertain the Mosinee Papermakers tonight and tomorrow night. Both game begin at 7:30 at the Colosseum.

The Portage Lake Pioneers skate at Fond du Lac tomorrow night.

The Detroit Red Wings’ scoring struggles continued last night in a 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Mike Green netted Detroit’s only goal, as the Wings tested L-A goalie Jeff Zatkoff with just 18 shots. Detroit has lost the first four games of this five-game home stand, and has scored only three goals total. The Wings will try to salvage the final game against the Anaheim Ducks tomorrow night. The Detroit Pistons visit the Washington Wizards tonight. Faceoff is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

NFL
In last night’s NFL contest, the Seattle Seahawks clawed the Los Angeles Rams 24-3.

On Sunday, the Detroit Lions visit the New York Giants for a 1:00 game. Hear the broadcast on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Green Bay Packers face the Chicago Bears in a 1:00 contest.
