The Calumet Colosseum is the recipient of a grant of $8,400 from the Michigan Humanities Council for a project promoting hockey and Guts Frisbee.
The application for the Humanities Grant was submitted by International Frisbee Inc for an interactive kiosk and traveling exhibit called Pucks and Guts.
The exhibit, which will be housed at the Colosseum, will include oral histories from local players participating in the sports during previous eras.
A main goal for the kiosk and portable displays will be to connect the two sports’ histories to the local people across a broad spectrum of ages.
Residents from youth to senior citizens will gain a new and/or improved perspective of the two sports and their significance in the history of the Keweenaw Peninsula and beyond.
The Humanities Grant was part of nearly $275,000 in funds awarded to 24 Michigan organizations.
